James Kalm, Untitled Art Project, 2009, screengrab AFC
Posting has been suspended for the day on account of the fact that I spent all of last night throwing up. In the meantime, event coverage we missed this weekend on account of being ill:
James Kalm posted some good footage of Bravo’s Untitled Art Project auditions on Facebook. Claiming he was the best and most well-read art blog on the web didn’t seem to get him any additional access but an unknown source did tell him Jerry Saltz was a judge. This isn’t much of a surprise—he’s an obvious choice. White Columns Director Matthew Higgs is very likely another judge, given he was a panelist for the Turner Prize in 2006 and that the auditions were held at his space. So who’s the remaining judge? Debra Singer at the Kitchen? Thelma Golden at the Studio Museum? Lauren Cornell at The New Museum? Those are my guesses.
Other video footage of the auditions includes NY Art Beat’s documentation of would-be contestants with their portfolios. It’s a little boring, but as they say, viewers can use it to spot their friends. See also reader reports on AFC posts. Word is the first level of screening only judges contestants on whether they look the part. This is disappointing, to say the least.
