- Ketterer Kunst is coming to the US. The German auction house has tapped auctioneer Stella Mchaelis to lead the expansion from its newly founded Los Angeles office. Even though they had an office in New York in the 1970s and 80s, they’re going West Coast because whereas NY is all about “the art market”, Angelenos as “more interested in the content”. Further, Ketterer will be the first major German auction house to expand outside the country in response to the government’s controversial cultural heritage legislation, which many have said could hurt the German art market.
