I’ve spent an enormous amount of time thinking about Laurie Anderson GIFs over the past several weeks thanks to the 10th Anniversary GIF collection. And yet, somehow I never got to looking at the pre-existing animated GIFs out there. A google search tells me there’s a predictable amount of glowing lip images—a common motif in Anderson’s work—but the most compelling image is actually the black and white shot of Lou Reed, blinking above. It appeared on a tumblr that the image paired with the title of the Velvet Underground song Let me be Your Mirror and a quote by Anderson on his death. The song is a good match for the image; Reed’s expression is blank enough that it could mean anything.
