If ever there was a week for art nerds, this is it. It begins Tuesday with a screening of artist made music-videos Otion Front Studio and a show of meticulously assembled abstract paper works by Jessica Dickinson and Alison Knowles at James Fuentes. Paper nerds and music nerds unite. By Friday, gallery goers will be heading to Transfer Gallery to witness a room full of projectors showcasing a playlist of works by a dozen or more new media artists.  New Media nerds rejoice.

In between all this nerdery, there are also quite a few exhibitions promising a good time, not the least of which being our very own Strange Genitals, which opens this Thursday at AICAD. Following this, is the always provocative Marilyn Minter at the Brooklyn Museum come Friday and Jennifer Catron and Paul Outlaw’s performance looking at how the relationship between gravity and politics leads to the break-down of thought. Catron and Outlaw promise an “assembly of libations” after their performance, so don’t make any plans for Sunday.

This week will not be defined by free time. Bjork opens this week at MoMA; for a bag of money you can see it before the public does at The Armory Show’s benefit for MoMA. Anicka Yi will debut a new bacteria made out of women at the Kitchen. Bleeps and bloops will be heard at the Museum of the Moving Image. Or you can spend your weekend sitting at a computer at the 2015 Art + Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon.

Our entirely biased, completely compromised listing advises readers to head out to “Art and the Cloud,” a discussion about collecting digital art moderated by AFC’s Paddy Johnson. Panelists include controversial art advisor and collector Stefan Simchowitz, collector David Diamond, independent curator and consultant Myriam Vanneschi, and Transfer Gallery founder Kelani Nichole.

Rent prices tend to vary by borough, neighborhood, or street. It’s fairly unusual, then, to see a wide range of rental rates within one building. But at the Dock Studios building in East Williamsburg, owned by Grand Morgan Realty, there’s tenants just over the moon and those who are ready to get the heck out.

Transfer Gallery: Where The Digital Becomes Physical

What’s the hottest arts space in Bushwick? For my money, it’s Transfer, a gallery that focuses on artists who live in the digital world and make work in the physical. Since founding it six months ago, owners Kelani Nichole and Jereme Mongeon have launched shows that have included hundreds of gifs, large-scale digital prints, poetry readings, and wall-sized paintings of computer desktops. They have a show opening October 12 with Rollin Leonard, a figurative artist known for the digital disassemblage of his own body. Also, from November 1-2, Transfer will act as The Wrong New Digital Art Biennale’s AFK-Embassy in NYC. Given all this activity, I thought it was an appropriate time to chat with cofounder Nichole.
