Tired of the same image day after day in the Art Fag City masthead? Short attention span readers consider consider your woes answered. Changing the header image each day this month, Baltimore artist Kari Altmann will count down the New Year in our masthead. Her series “Blackmouth Cyber Monday Sale”, references the artist’s recently received spam, the masthead images including an assortment of found, made, and captured media objects. Their quick turn over rate mirrors the rate of image consumption on the web, while demanding a level of performance from the artist the web frequently asks of its users.
As a means of keeping track of the artist’s work, this featured artist page will serve as an ongoing archive of all the Altmann mastheads.
Kari often explores the current state of consumption in the virtual and physical realms of her work. She has grown up alongside the internet participating in social networks and the medium of the rss feed. She still maintains a blog, myspace, flickr, blingee, and many more under the name “blackmoth“, and like many online artists views this scattered network of material as an atlas, sketchbook, exhibition, and performance of its own.
Kari Altmann is an interdisciplinary artist based in Baltimore and New York who received her BFA in Film and Video from MICA in 2008. She is the co-founder and curator of Netmares / Netdreams, the Super + + blog, and the new trouble-making collective R-U-IN?S.
