At 1,500 bucks, Bushwick Basel might have the smallest operating budget of any art fair we’ve been to, but it drew some of the largest crowds at this weekend’s Bushwick Open Studios. Debuting at artist and fair organizer Jules de Balincourt’s Starr Space, the fair attracted 11 galleries from around the neighborhood. It was, by many accounts, a success.

WTF is up with Bushwick? “Confronting Bushwick: A Discussion on the Nature and Future of the Bushwick Art Scene”, attempts to answer this question by assembling a team of experts and throwing them in a room Hyperallergic’s Hrag Vartanian. A Bushwick expert amongst Bushwick experts Vartanian will lead the panel in exploring the buzz surrounding the neighborhood and what defines the ethos of this particular scene.
