- Join the Art+Feminism Wikipedia Edit-a-thon on February 1st to help address the gender imbalance on this ubiquitous and widely used resource. There are 20 locations around the world, and online. Eyebeam will host New York’s Edit-a-thon. [Art and Feminism]
- Lots of outrage in the dance world over Alastair Macaulay’s panning of American Realness. Andy Horwitz says Macaulay isn’t the real bully here, it’s Ann Liv Young, the performance artist who took a megaphone to hurl abuse at performer Rebecca Patek last Wednesday. She forced Patek off the stage in tears, while the curators did nothing to protect her. [Culturebot]
- Martha Beck, who founded The Drawing Center, has died at 75. [The New York Times]
- Art Miami has acquired NYC’s Downtown Fair. Meh. [Baer Faxt]
- Internet artist and Newsweek critic Douglas Davis has died at 80. He created The World’s First Collaborative Sentence, an early online participatory project. Christiane Paul and Ben Fino-Radin helped spearhead a restoration of the project last year. [The New York Times]
- Art:I:Curate asked artist Luke Turner if they could produce 50 postcards from an image he’d made for their members. He agreed, only to learn that they were actually going to make prints, and were used as Kickstarter awards. From there the emails get really ugly. [Art:I:Curate Exposed]
- Charles Saatchi is threatening to beat up Taki Theodoracopulos, author of the society blog “High Life”, for calling him “repellent” for abusing Nigella Lawson. Looks like he took the challenge. What a stupid story. [Spectator]
- Speaking of stupidity, Justin Bieber has been arrested for drag racing down Miami Beach while under the influence of drugs and alcohol. [TMZ]
