I’ll Never Let Canada Live This Down: Evil Carpooling Startup Fined

PickupPal is a Canadian online community where people can find others traveling to the same places, and carpool there to save gas. The bus companies freaked and sued under an Ontario law that limits carpoolers to traveling only from home to work and back, riding with the same driver every day and paying only by the week, among other restrictions. PickupPal just lost that suit.

The TV Watch - Sarah Palin Rehashes 2008 and Rehearses, Perhaps, for 2012 - NYTimes.com

Palin’s ignorance and arrogance leaves such a bad taste in my mouth. If the Republican party wants to tank itself so be it, but frankly I’d rather see someone a little less dangerous vying for the position of presidential candidate in 2012.

tom moody » Krauss: 20 Year Life for Critics

An excerpt from a larger interview quoted on Tom Moody’s blog: “Rosalind Krauss: I think most critics have about twenty years when they are out there on the barricades and have a kind of intuitive connection to new work. I no longer have an intuitive connection to very very new work, and I believe that it should be younger artists and younger critics who deal with that work.”

“Britney Spears has mercifully turned down a role as the Virgin Mary in an upcoming religious satire, “Sweet Baby Jesus.”" Now that Obama is President Elect I guess we’re back to “real news”

The New York Times is the third google search result. Notably no other actual newspapers make the first page of results. Time for the competition to step it up.

Fortune | Pitchfork - Callers

I believe I identified this album as worth a listen before Pitchfork got around to giving it a 7.8.  (Not that I’m claiming AFC to be a go-to site for music, but we do have a few connections to other creative fields worth noting).

Architecture Review - Art Gallery of Ontario - Frank Gehry Puts a Very Different Signature on Toronto Museum - NYTimes.com

“It is not a perfect building, yet its billowing glass facade, which evokes a crystal ship drifting through the city, is a masterly example of how to breathe life into a staid old structure. And its interiors underscore one of the most underrated dimensions of Mr. Gehry’s immense talent: a supple feel for context and an ability to balance exuberance with delicious moments of restraint.”
