Art needs you. Make a conceptual cake for Air Circulation’s Peristalsis opening, or clean out your closet for Cynthia Daignault’s art-barter show. You’ll feel good about it.

Cynthia Daignault: Das Tauschregal (The Barter Shelf)

Trade an object for art. Cynthia Daignault wants to give you one of her paintings in exchange for any “object of value.” She’ll give you a 9 x 9 inch painting, and in exchange she’s seeking:

– An “object of value” that fits in a box measuring approximately 10 x 10 x 10 inches.

– An “object of value” that is, in fact, an object. Daignault refers to Merriam-Webster for a definition that the object be “something material that can be viewed by the senses; or something that when viewed stirs a particular emotion (as pity).” So you won’t get away with giving her an abstract idea like “love.”

If you want to be in the barter project, send a description of your object to Lisa Cooley (107 Norfolk Street, NY, NY, 10002) on a 3 x 5 inch index card by Tuesday, April 1st.

“Objects of value” will be included in an exhibition along with Daignault’s paintings on May 1, 2014.  Participants will receive their painting no later than September 15, 2014.

Conceptual Cake Party at Air Circulation (160 Randolph St, Brooklyn NY)
March 29, 2014 from 7:00 – 9:00 PM

This Saturday bake a cake, any cake you want, as long as it’s “conceptual.” According to the Conceptual Cake Party curators Paulina Bebecka and Marcin Ramocki (held during the Peristalsis opening), a conceptual cake can be whatever you want it to be, with one requirement—all cakes must fit within a 16 x 16 inch square.

The gallery has room for up to 35 cakes and they can be edible or not—for the sake of our tastebuds, we hope some of them are. Post-party, images of the cakes will be published in the form of a limited-edition photo book.

If you want to bring your own conceptual cake, email the curators at paulinabebecka@gmail.com.
