Editor’s Note: IMG MGMT is a series of image-based essays by artists. This week’s invited artist, Phillip Andrew Lewis, is an interdisciplinary artist living in Chattanooga, Tennessee. In an ongoing interdisciplinary project titled SYNONYM, Lewis analyzes the history and current practice of drug rehabilitation programs and group therapy models. For two years between 1989-1991 he was held against his will inside an unmarked building as part of an religion-based experimental drug treatment program.
For “Special Collections / Spec. Coll. / S.C.,” all images were found through online resellers and listed as “vintage belt buckles” or “vintage pens.”
IMG MGMT is made possible through support from the Joan Mitchell Foundation.
