Color Wheel is a series in which we identify a trending color in art, and post a daily image that illustrates its popularity. This week’s color is white.
It’s winter, so I’m doubting that as I make my way to the galleries this week for my first big art trek of 2014 that I’ll see much in the way of, say, fuchsia. White, that’s more of January’s style. I was looking for images by Sam Anderson, a sculptor showing in the Foxy Production show opening this weekend, and I found this curious object of hers. Anderson often works small, and this delicate little skeleton is no different.
I have no idea what type of animal these bones come from—I’m no Oddities expert—but wielding an equally bizarre bone-flag in its hand, it’s definitely got chutzpah. It’s like it’s saying, “You don’t need to be big to act big.” Or in the words of Lil Wayne: “I feel big, you know what I mean? Like not … not big in the sense of weight … like, colossal!”
