[Color Wheel is a series in which we identify a trending color in art for the week and post a daily image that illustrates its popularity. This week’s color is purple. Readers are invited to submit images throughout the week and we’ll post the best ones we receive.]
Benjamin Degen’s got a solo show opening up at Susan Inglett Gallery this week, and we’re pretty sure his use of purple had something to do with it. The color is everywhere. (Follow Color Wheel this week and you’ll see all the places it’s been popping up.)
Trends aside though, Degen gets a special mention here because we like what we’re seeing: obsessive attention to patterning within natural forms, a sensitivity to color, and Matisse-like figuration. In other words, purple is just the start of what Degen’s got to offer.
