This week’s Five Jobs are for the hands-on and crafty. Whether you’re the burly art-handling type or a fastidious mat board cutter who loves perfect 45 degree angles, there’s something here for you to dig into.

  • Building Manager/Preparator at Hamilton College’s Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum (Hamilton, NY)

How to apply
Help grow Hamilton’s College one-year-old Wellin museum as the hands-on building manager. Wellin wants someone with a Fine Arts or related Degree (a Masters is a plus) who knows their matting, framing, mounting, and crating: you’ll be responsible for museum construction. The job requires you to manage grounds crew, contract workers, and student staff (feed off that youthful energy). And you’ll need to develop a budget for all this and confer with artists and curators to design exhibitions. As building coordinator, you’ll oversee building security and perform maintenance and repairs.

  • Art Placement + Installation Associate at ILevel, Inc. (New York, NY)

How to apply
Install artwork at corporate offices (like J.Crew), galleries, and private homes. This firm is looking for someone with sturdy installation skills, safe art handling technique, and an astute sense of design. Experience necessary.

  • Fitter at Downing Frames (Long Island City, NY)

How to apply
Attention experienced fitters: snatch up this job fitting “museum quality” frames where you’ll also do plenty of matting, hinging, and art packing. Downing Frames is looking for someone with 2 years of fitting experience who’s detail-oriented and efficient. Salary will reflect your level of experience.

  • 3-D Exhibit Designer at the John C. Shedd Aquarium (Chicago, IL)

How to apply
The Shedd Aquarium in Chicago has an opening for a 3-D Exhibit Designer and it’s the most wholesome job description we’ve seen in weeks. Yearning to inspire and educate? This job is about spearheading design development and research and conceiving projects that will engage the aquarium’s broad audience. You should have a passion for animals, an interest in education, and a creative vision. You should also be savvy in materials and construction, graphic production, universal design, and design software. The aquarium wants someone with a Bachelors in exhibition design and a minimum of 3-5 years of exhibition design experience (2 years of management experience preferred).

  • Temporary Photography Assistant at OXO (New York, NY)

How to apply
These guys are looking for a recent grad who knows Lightroom, Capture One, Adobe Photoshop, Photoshop actions, batch editing, and retouching. The housewares company makes things like spatulas and they need someone to create product images. You’ll be responsible for everything from shooting to retouching and will work in their photo studio in the West Village (that’s definitely a plus). It’s a three-month gig and they’re asking applicants to suggest a salary range.
