Our focus on silver is all part of Color Wheel, a new series in which we identify a trending color in art for the week and post images that illustrate its popularity. Readers are invited to send us images they have on hand so long as they match the profiled colors and we’ll post the best ones we receive.
Be on the lookout for silver this week. We believe this color has legs, so we’ll be profiling it in the form of pictures and parting shots every afternoon, for the duration of the week.
So let’s hop to it. Silver’s up, and we’re beginning with this shot of me and artist Jose Lerma in front of his theatrical silver curtains in his MCA installation. Full of optical illusions, and allusions to the biography of the room’s sponsor, the late ophthalmologist Dr. Paul Sternberg, the installation presents the viewer with seemingly countless perspectives and shifting site lines. All this, thanks in no small part to silver.
Basically, silver is taking over the art world and Lerma’s installation is just the tip of the iceberg. Tomorrow, we’ll take another look at that chunk of ice.
