Calling Artists: IMG MGMT Returns, and We’re Seeking Submissions!

by The AFC Staff on July 10, 2013 IMG MGMT

58 Lungomare 9 Maggio, Bari, Puglia, Italy (Jon Rafman, "Nine Eyes of Google Street View")

The hiatus is finally over. After two long years we’re thrilled to announce the return of Art F City’s celebrated best-ever essay series “IMG MGMT”… !!! It gets better. This time, we’re accepting submissions. The deadline is August 15th.

This is a big deal. Created by Art Fag City founder Paddy Johnson in 2008, the series has helped enliven art discourse outside of academia, and broadens the definition of art-making after the internet. IMG MGMT gained unprecedented momentum (sometimes, even, runaway success), thanks to the hard work of contributors like Martha Rosler, VVORK, Shana Moulton, Michael Mahalchick, Petra Cortright, Lorna Mills, The Bruce High Quality Foundation, Roger White and Dushko Petrovich, and Anton Vidokle. Whether examining the world of turbo-sculpture, or the squiggles used by women’s health groups, their inspired observations have reached millions of readers from all over the world.

But of course, much has changed since the spring of 2011: Occupy. Snapchat. Net art went mainstream, and we changed our name. A little older now, and many essays later, we look to IMG MGMT for our brave new world.

Artists should submit proposals of 500 words or less, with a handful of related images, to paddy@artfcity.com. All essays are paid.

Thanks to The Joan Mitchell Foundation for their generous support.
