Now that the world’s museums have nearly exhausted the Gehry aesthetic, his firm has found a new clientele in Facebook. According to Mashable, Facebook just signed a 10-year lease on office space at 770 Broadway, which will include an interior designed by Frank Gehry. This move marks not just one, but two Gehry-designed headquarters in the Facebook future.
These titans of architecture and tech first announced their growing friendship this past fall, when Facebook unveiled a Gehry-designed expansion for its California campus. Don’t expect any steely, fishscale buildings à la the Guggenheim Bilbao, Weisman Art Museum, or the Art Gallery of Ontario, though. From mock-ups, it appears that the campus will look like a long, snaking treehouse, and will be “complete with random pops of graffiti and retro arcade machines”. No word yet on whether the New York location will include similar teen-boy features.
