“It’s a shy gesture that you try to add to a basic thing,” Designer Ana Kraš tells viewers as she discusses her work in the latest edition of the Avant Garde Diares. The spotlight is filled with images of knitted and woven lamp shades, each with a tastefully restrained palette.
Kraš gained international attention early on in her career, making prototypes and designs without the aid of a computer. Then she was just a student in Belgrade, but her success naturally lured her to New York City. Kraš is best known for “Bon Bon” lamps, labor intensive shades that transform what might be otherwise modest work, but in this video we see more than that. Avant Garde Diaries gives us a window into her studio, working process, and even her personal life.
