• Tate Director Chris Dercon opens up to ARTnews about his past as a “really, really bad Belgian artist”. In more awkwardness, he describes how leading a museum is like being the captain of a large ocean liner. “If there are any achievements it’s navigation, and it’s really not like the Costa Concordia,” he said, referring to the 2012 Italian shipwreck disaster. • Gawker reports on the tribulations of a MFA student at SVA who could not get a break with his semen art project. Staff forcibly removed his refrigerated jizz from the student gallery on the grounds of seeing the “creative potential of the artist as a health hazard.”[Gawker]

• Sotheby’s is increasing their buyers premium. This follows Christie’s decision to do the same earlier this year. A spokesman for Sotheby’s described the change as having “moved farther ahead to what we think of as rounder numbers.” Whatever that means. [ARTINFO]
• The NEA budget will be cut by 5 percent thanks to the sequester, but those numbers are based on the current budget, which runs through March 27. After that, a lot may change. [ARTINFO]
