Art dealer Gavin Brown is finally coming out. ARTINFO’s Julia Halperin just broke the news about Brown’s little-known secret: he’s an artist, and he’s having his first solo show in over a decade at Milwaukee’s The Green Gallery.

Throughout Brown’s tenure as the West Village’s most successful dealer of all time, he’s continued to dabble in art. If you’ve been paying attention, you’ll find his work on view around New York from time to time. It’s not bad.

Recent examples include still-life photographs at Venus Over Manhattan’s Bulletin Boards and a spirited art performance protest at Frieze New York where he recruited actor Mark Ruffalo, i.e. The Hulk, for an anti-fracking sausage fest.

Dates for Brown’s solo show have yet to be confirmed, although Halperin, in conversation with The Green Gallery’s Director John Riepenhoff—who, like Brown, has an art practice on the side—notes that the show will likely take place in late 2013 or early 2014.

I hope so.

When you can ask Mark Ruffalo to help with an art practice you have on the side,, you are successful.
