Bid Now: A Hurricane Relief Auction We Can Get Behind

Juan Carlos Zaldivar, "Shifting Nature Pod (3rd Edition)" Estimated value: $3,500

Chelsea may have reopened last week, but hurricane recovery’s still a long way off. DUMBO’s Smack Mellon only just turned on their electricity, and it will take years for spaces like Eyebeam and Printed Matter—not to mention several mid-sized galleries—to replenish lost inventory. Many of our favorite galleries, like Derek Eller, are among them. Whether you know it or not, a few of your favorite artists probably were, too.

That’s why we’re going to encourage reckless bidding on this online Paddle 8 auction benefitting the ADAA’s relief fund, which has so far raised $500,000 (which, to put that in perspective, is only $100,000 more than what’s needed by Smack Mellon alone). Estimated values for auction items start at $300, so almost anyone can participate. Get loose. Flash your wad at a charity event. If you don’t see anything you like, bid early and drive everybody’s prices up. That’s good for the whole community.
