Before we head out for the holidays, we’ve still got some thrilling art events in store. Performances! Holiday parties! Openings! Benefits! If 2012 still leaves you feeling artistically unfulfilled, then you’ve still got one more shot at getting some closure. Here are a few of the offerings:
Wednesday, December 17th
Benefit: Flux Factory’s Not-So-Silent Auction, Flux Factory
You’ve read this on AFC too, but come support one of the city’s hardest-working nonprofit art platforms and residency programs at Flux Factory’s not-so-silent auction. If you have a stake in the New York art community, then this is a must; as it gets harder and harder to make artwork, we need all the Flux Factories we can get. This year, they’ll be honoring artist Martha Wilson and Shelley Rubin for her work with A Blade of Grass.

What do you call a performance retooling Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein with 1930’s avant-garde cinema, ancient mythology, and ambient noise music? Psychopompe. Cool!
This is gonna be good, you guys. The piece by French painter/visual artist Camille Henrot and musician Joakim was originally made for the Pompidou, and this will be its New York premiere.

Holiday party/ opening: The Holiday Show, Studio 10
For a safe bet, stop by a duo show of Brooklyn fixtures, Mike Ballou and Matt Freedman. Studio ten, we’re told, will become a sculpture-cave, in which “Creatures of questionable birth wander over the snow drifted floors and mysterious mumblings and squeaks come from all corners.” o0o.
Both make light-hearted, clunky sculpture (Ballou was responsible for that cow’s head on top of Diner a few years ago, for instance) and campy film and performance, all of which, points to a solid holiday event.
7-9pm 56 Bogart Street, BushwickPerformance: The Half Straddle Songbook, New Museum
The hyper cute, neo-feminist group Half Straddle’s play “In the Pony Palace/FOOTBALL” got rave reviews last year, including from Benjamin Sutton here at the L. See what all the fuss was about this Thursday at the New Museum, as they present a concert of original songs.
