Sandy has hit DUMBO hard, but efforts are already underway to get the district back on its feet. Help DUMBO Rebuild, the district’s first big fundraiser for local businesses and area art galleries, will take place next Wednesday, November 14th. (The event was originally scheduled for Wednesday, November 7th, but was moved due to the Nor’easter).
Tickets begin at $25, a price point low enough that virtually any of us can help out. We’ve already bought ours and plan to enjoy the tunes while staring enviously at a few auction items; businesses from around the neighborhood have donated lots, including a two hour private party at Jane’s Carousel and a bunch of fancy dinners.
Remarkably, the event is at Galapagos Art Space, which just over a week ago was under several feet of the East River. They need your help recovering, as do the dozens of businesses and venues that were affected by this storm. This fundraiser will play an essential role in kickstarting DUMBO’s revival.
So buy a ticket. There’s no better cure for the Sandy blues than feasting, grooving, and most importantly, celebrating the vibrancy of art spaces like Galapagos, Smack Mellon, and Rabbit Hole Studios. They’re sticking around, but right now they need your help.
