Blinky Palermo, To the People of New York City (Part IX)

Organized by Dia Art Foundation and the Center for Curatorial Studies, Bard College (CSS Bard), and curated by Lynne Cooke, Blinky Palermo: Restrospective 1964-1977 introduces American audiences to the influential German artist Blinky Palermo (1943-1977). The exhibition is on view through October 31, 2011 at both Hudson Valley locations.

Including more than sixty works, the exhibition is a comprehensive examination of the evolution of the artist’s aesthetic throughout his short career. The first collaboration between the two largest museums in the Hudson Valley dedicated to the arts from the 1960s to the present, this retrospective illuminates the significance of Palermo’s contributions to the field of postwar painting.

The exhibition will be shown both at Dia:Beacon and CSS Bard. On view in the CSS Bard galleries are the Objects, which Palermo created after he graduated from Dusseldorf Art Academy in 1964, as well as the Stoffbilder (Cloth Pictures), and documentation of his Wall Drawings and Paintings. The installation at Dia:Beacon will be devoted to Palermo’s Metal Pictures, dating 1973-1977 and developed in New York City.

Dia Beacon is located at 3 Beekman Street, Beacon, NY.

CSS Bard is located at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, NY.

General admission to Dia:Beacon is $10, $7 for students and seniors, FREE for Dia members and children under 12.
