Notes on MonoDramas At The New York City Opera

"Neither", Music by Morton Feldman. Text by Samuel Beckett. Performed by Cyndia Sieden

Mirrored boxes rose and fell with during the performance and were often used as props. In one memorable scene, Cyndia Sieden seemingly moves the boxes above her head just by pushing her arm forward. As she moves through the boxes they fall behind her, evoking a sense of anxiety and anticipation in the viewer. Irrationally I wanted them to stay suspended, even though there’s no reason to have any investment at all in their placement.

kara April 8, 2011 at 5:14 pm: I think this series is more or less failed. Personally, I love Feldman and his opera set was pretty nice so it was good. But the other two was disappointed ,literally. Specially, though I do love John zorn, his opera was not good!!! at all.
