Annika von Hausswolff, Attempting to Deal with Time and Space, 1997, Casey Kaplan Gallery

If you want to know the must-see art exhibits up now, look no further. Every two weeks AFC brings you five New York-based recommended shows, except in August when the art world is slow and we do things a little differently. This week the blog’s curatorial fellow, David Harper, and AFC intern, Liza Eliano, offer these suggestions: Young Curators, New Ideas III at P.P.O.W., Slummer Nights at CANADA, Daniel Gordon’s Thirty-One Days and Ruby Sky Stiler’s Special Project at Callicoon Fine Arts, Approaching Abstraction at the Folk Art Museum, and Reflection: 15 Years at Casey Kaplan. For more details check out the Recommended Shows section that compiles all of our picks over the last month and add them to your calendar!

New York, New York, New York, New York, New York.
Anything good in the other 99% of the country?

    Ever hopeful,

I am surprised to anybody endorse a show “Organized by Mr. and Mrs. amani olu…..”
She doesn’t have a name? What is this, 1850? Maybe it’s an inside joke that I am missing.

Actually we made fun of that at the office too. It looks like that’s his url — I’m guessing Amani didn’t get married in the last year and that’s just an unfortunate choice of whatever. Last year the show mostly got panned, and I think this one is an improvement on the last. I think James Shaeffer’s work is very promising, which is mostly why this write up exists.

Ha! Sorry Hypothete. These write ups typically accompany shows we’ve been to (“we” typically meaning Dave since he picks almost all of them). We’re a New York based blog, so the recs. reflect that. For now anyway.

There’s a cool exhibit at the MCA in Chicago right now. Well, not really “exhibit.” More like “sale on umbrellas in the giftshop.” Still, they’re great umbrellas.
