Rewind to Summer 2009!

The Friendly Falcons, GreenCat (Proposal), 2009

What were the folks at Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture up to last summer? We’ll find out as artists from last year’s residency reunite for an exhibition entitled I Know What You Did Last Summer, opening this Friday at St. Cecelia’s in Brooklyn. The show will be big, taking over three stories of the former convent and featuring multimedia work by an international group of more than fifty artists. The alumni write, “With this exhibition we celebrate the creative exchange, transformation, experimentation, debate, and lack of self-restraint we experienced in the woods one year ago— as well as look to the future of the artistic community that continues to prosper.”

Skowhegan’s nine-week long program in Maine is the most prestigious residency around and has drawn in artists for 64 years. In an interview on the blog back in 2008, Kate Haw, Executive Director of Development and Administration, and Linda Earle, Executive Director of Programs, spoke about updating the digital and media lab on site to facilitate more media artists. After checking out the websites of some participating artists, its looks like I Know What You Did Last Summer might be something to brave the heat for. Here are a few selected pieces that look promising:

Dan Levenson

Dan Levenson was also featured on the blog in 2008 in an interview with Paddy for ArtCal Zine.

Gregory Witt, Cloud, 2009, Styrofoam insulation and mixed media, 144 x 96 x 98

Jayoung Yoon, Line of Thought I, 2008, Digital print, 40 x 60 inches
