The Times is so weird. Ostensibly what Rosenberg writes is a “blog,” yet there are no links to those Sillman-questioning “blogs and other online forums” she mentions. Must we take her word that “admirers outnumber detractors”? Sillman’s critics are called “hecklers”–nice. Oh, well, at least dissent is noted by the paper of record. It’s amusing to read a pull-quote-in-the-making like “the new paintings are bigger, bolder and more assertive than anything she has done before.” Karen Rosenberg, meet Boris Groys and the “weak gesture” (discussed in these posts of Paddy’s: http://www.artfagcity.com/2010/01/22/what-is-the-role-of-the-artist/ and http://www.artfagcity.com/2010/01/28/rebuking-the-constant-rise-of-mediocrity/).
