Hey, who wants to join a new social networking site?

Yeah, and since a case of hives also sounds appealing, ARThood Selects has enlisted A-list curator Shamim M. Momin, of the 2008 Whitney Biennial, to lure users by curating their newest competition. All you gotta do is sign up to be eligible to win!

Once registered on the site, artists are asked to submit an image that fits the “Nomadic” theme, the focus of Momin’s latest project as founder and director at Los Angeles Nomadic Division (LAND), a non-profit public art organization.

As far as art competitions go, this one doesn’t sound too bad, but I have to wonder how much value the prize offers competitors. From the site,

ARThood promises to feature the work of home page and included in ARThood’s unique new online exhibition space, ARThood Exhibitions, with an exclusive accompanying text by Shamim M. Momin.

That’s great of course — few artists would shun Momin’s name on their resumes — but unless we’re talking net art, an online exhibition is hardly the same as a physical show. So, you know, go ahead and submit, just be aware that there’s not a lot in it past a bullet point on a resume and the chance ARThood will become the next online Saatchi project.
