Who wants to see tennis great John McEnroe play a match against nasty narrative painter Eric Fischl? I know I do and that’s the one thing “For the Love of Art” fundraiser doesn’t offer. As part of the Eric Fischl Lecture Series, these two “legends” really let us down with this event to benefit the John and Patty McEnroe Foundation and the Eric Fischl Fine Arts Scholarship Program at Phoenix College! Apparently all they’ll do is share the same dining space after McEnroe plays a match against Andrei Pavel and a couple of sponsors.

Those seeking a little more intel on the McEnroe Fischl connection may be interested to learn that according to a press release published by Phoenix College, McEnroe has a little known space in Soho, appropriately titled The John McEnroe Gallery. Fischl is an alumnus of Phoenix College. Unfortunately for me, I spent a small portion of the day trying to figure out how the artist had graduated from the online giant so many years ago before realizing I had confused the college with Phoenix University. That’s put a bit of a damper on my closing jokes plans.

if you’re at all familiar with phoenix, they are very, very (if not extremely) different creatures. the painting is great, but the event may put me to sleep.
