Haute Romantics at Verge Gallery

POST BY PADDY JOHNSON

I’m back from the west coast, and boy do I have pictures! Over the next couple of days I’ll be posting images from various gallery and museum visits, including the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. First up: the AFC curated show at Verge Gallery, Haute Romantics. The show examines a growing subsection of artists creating work that maps the ideals of late 18th century Romanticism such as untamed landscape, aesthetic beauty, escapism, and youth. I don’t write this post claiming objectivity — I’m really happy with the composition and installation of the exhibition — but of course, I would be. As such, I’ll leave it those with a little less investment in the subject matter to draw their own conclusions.
