Prompted by Leslie Hewitt’s statement that she is inspired by “the everyday and the transformative power of circumstance or situation,” we shot a few images of her photographs of piled stuff hiding the gallery’s piled stuff at Art Basel yesterday. We’re pretty sure our art fair reinterpretation departs fairly significantly from her own objectives for the work — certainly we’ve negated the described auto-biographical elements — but we were mildly amused by the presentation none-the-less.

    Dear Paddy,

It is unfortunate that you have decided to take a quote from Leslie Hewitt’s artist statement completely out of context in order for you to make a cheap joke about Damelio Terras poor installation of her work. I was looking forward to your blog coverage of Art Basel this year but there seems to be an insensitive tone to your coverage of artists and their work. I would hope that you find something of substance within yourself rather than writing fodder.
