Why the Moralizing of the Dakis Joannou Show at the New Museum Is a Bit Much — New York Magazine
Jerry Saltz says he likes the art world unregulated for the second time in his ongoing commentary on the New Museum story, but still doesn’t explain why. I tend to think the negatives outweigh the positives on that point. How many contemporary galleries give their stable artists health care? How many art professionals are compensated fairly for what they do?

I even think the quantity of poor writing in the art world can, at least, in part be attributed to lax regulations.

Saltz: “What’s more, the Joannou collection isn’t just usual suspects; it is all about sex, death, shit, the Oedipus complex, and materiality of the strangest sort.”
Um, that sounds EXACTLY like the usual suspects to me.

William Powhida has recently twittered some great old Jerry Saltz quotes that completely contradict his lenient response to the NuMu scandal (@powhida).

@Giovanni I saw those, but I don’t know that I think tweeting contradicting pieces from 6 or 7 years ago means that much. I mean, these are the sorts of arguments that labeled Kerry a flip flopper. Unless they’re written within the same article, I tend to think they don’t mean very much. Everyone changes their mind, and different situations require different responses.
