Saul Chernick, Crown of Thorns (After Martin Schongauer), 2009, animated gif

I’ve been seeing a few more art history gifs circling the web lately; Chernick’s hand-rendered Crown of Thorns above is amongst the stronger ones.

In mostly unrelated thoughts, like no doubt many, I notice Facebook completely marginalized their jpg gift market a while ago. This is probably because there’s no need to spend money on a product you can find for free. Though gifs are slightly more rarefied, this does seem to be one medium that proves difficult to monetize.
