People do weird things with their money. As evidenced by this week’s Best Link Ever, the ultra-charismatic Phillips de Pury chairman Simon de Pury produces a cheesy music video featuring himself in an fantasy-auction of sorts, set against a Europop remake of Pete Seeger and Lee Hay’s “If I Had a Hammer.” Why would Simon de Pury, one of the most famous auctioneers in the contemporary art world, want to create a potentially embarrassing, nonsensical music video? We’re not entirely sure. We’re also dumbfounded by his quirkily titled exhibition, Purepurygraphy, the auctioneer’s foray into photography. De Pury’s photo show opened last Wednesday, October 21st at the Corner in Berlin, with a “swanky party” DJed by Simon himself. Purepurygraphy also touts a website and Twitter feed, sadly with only seven followers. We hope AFC readers in Berlin will check out the show and give us a full report.
Best Link Ever is a weekly column posted on Fridays culling the best gems of the Internet, maintained by AFC Associate Editor Karen Archey.
