The entrance to the exhibition Amalia at the Museu Coleccao Berardo
We’re working to beat a number of deadlines here, so nothing will appear on the blog today. In the mean time, I visited the Museu Coleccao Berardo this past weekend while I was in Lisbon and was lucky enough to take a few photographs for readers during a behind the scenes tour of their current exhibition, Amalia. Mostly, this means that some of the photographs I took document the installation process of the show, which I won’t claim to be particularly revealing, even if the former art handler in me enjoys seeing still-to-be-mounted text and packing tables.
Those readers visiting Lisbon in the next four months should make this exhibition a stop. Marking the tenth anniversary of the great Portuguese Fado singer’s death, the show is a collection of documents, paintings, films, and other objects of note. Amongst my favorite ephemera is a wall of ads commissioning the mythical singer and actress’s endorsement for such products as vacuum cleaners and soap.
