Here’s an email not likely to boost company moral: “The luxury of carrying under-performing employees is now a thing of the past.” Those heartwarming sentiments come straight from a Larry Gagosian email sent out this past March and were mentioned in a short news item run over at ArtInfo yesterday about the gallery’s new bookstore. Not that it has too much to do with their venture past speculation about how they will afford the new shop. No details were offered about the size and possible cost of the store, but according to ArtInfo, come September 14th, we’ll able to check out the Madison Avenue location ourselves. Just as the online store sells their catalogues, books, and magazines so too will this store. Coincidentally, according to the Gagosian website, a Jeff Koons puppy vase, made in an edition of 3000, now sells for $7,500.00. I’m not particularly well versed in the Koons market, but this seems like a hefty price for such a large edition size.
