Jessica Dickinson’s work calls to mind an abstract psychological space in which elements of chance and change mark the surface of her paintings.  They are documents of her artistic process, but also a wordless expression of the senses. For this reason, they echo a hippie, new age subculture difficult for most artists to pull off.  Through Dickinson’s sheer mastery of the movement and behavior of paint, her work—often layered, stripped, and rebuilt—suggests the passage of time. This sense of history and acute awareness of surface combine to create the compelling work of AFC’s latest featured masthead artist.
