Just going through the audition process was akick in the ass. I’m motiviated to paint more TODAY! Meeting the people I met on line pointed out to myself that I’m not doing all that I can, even though I make a good living as a tattoo artist.

young interns who know nothing about art like, oh, hmm, JERRY SALTZ, sylvie? or did you not make it that far? because from what i could tell he was definitely there judging on the first audition day.

look i know most reality tv sucks, and of course they will always want a few crazy good looking folks, but bravo is a bit different. the winners of top chef throughout the seasons, for example, are barely young and attractive.

I think they are looking for talent and looks, I was in mIami and saw 150 turned away because work was weak. The show might suck but people should be more positive. Art galleries are closing everyday, what else should artist do. It could be a good experience. No one will know but the ones that makes it.

Please let your readers know the operative words here are TV STAR… having been at casting call, I can let you know that ART is probably way down on the criteria for being cast.
The “luminaries” that review the portfolios can’t possibly be anything but interns - young, obnoxious with no real knowledge about art.
If you’re single, young, tattoo’d and look good on camera, you’re more likely to be chosen.
It was also obvious that friends of the show were given favor - driving up back alleys, they didn’t have to wait in line, get interviewed or have their portfolio reviewed. It will be interesting to see who makes it - and how it all works.

I am shocked, simply shocked, that a reality show winner did not achieve beyond their wildest dreams. I cannot for a moment believe that the atmosphere of class and skill exuded by shows like “Project Runway” is as much a construct as the trashy sexploitation of shows like “Flavor of Love”.
