The Recent Exhibition History Of Film Reel Sculpture

Patricia Douder, ProjecteSD, at Art Basel Statements

If  what we’ve seen during the AFC European tour is any indication, no shortage of artists creating manipulated film reel sculpture exists.  As such, we’ve created a photo essay below highlighting recent viewed work that fits this genre.

Jordan Kantor, Ratio 3, at Art Basel Statements

For those who are interested, Kantor created paintings from stills in the film. We didn’t video tape the movie though, so it’s hard to show whether the piece is as A-B-C as it sounds.

Dan Rees, T293, at Art Basel Statements

An homage to Nam June Paik’s Zen for  TV?

Yutaka Aoki, Hiromi Yoshii at Liste

The band saw film reel.

Simon Starling, Epsom GB, 1965 at the Venice Biennale

The grandfather of film reel sculpture.
