Art Break: Twitter From Outer Space!

Has America’s desire for authentic expression even done away with scripted PR?  If Twitter is any indication, the answer to this question is yes.  Astronaut Michael Massimino became the first to tweet from space last week on the shuttle Atlantis.  His first space shout out reads, “From orbit: Launch was awesome!! I am feeling great, working hard, & enjoying the magnificent views, the adventure of a lifetime has begun!”  I suppose I was hoping for a “One small tweet for man; one giant leap for mankind”  kind of twitterscape, but I guess I’ll take my multiple exclamation mark, amazing view commentary and be thankful for what I’ve got.

    agreed. it seems any big event in our lives can & will be reduced to an “awesome” tweet. maybe the tweet week should include one day where we all attempt to compose magnificent tweets – turning even the most mundane into something special…? :)

    but why are you SUCH a twitter proponent, to the extent that even if the content is banal, the form of its delivery is something to be thankful for? Is twitter so mindblowing?

    There was an edge of sarcasm intended when I wrote that I should be thankful for what I’ve got. The problem with idea of “authentic” expression, is that not all of it has value.
