Creative Capital | Warhol Foundation Arts Writers Grant Program announced their 2008 grant winners over the weekend, Art Fag City amongst them. Truth be told, I’m not sure I even know how to talk about what this means; maintaining the blog in its current form took up all the resources I had, so I literally cried on the phone when I was told. But my position is not unique. c-monster, vvork, Greg Allen, Two Coats of Paint, Modern Art Notes, Culturegrrl, Hrag Vartanian, newsgrist, Conscientious, and Tom Moody are just a few of the great bloggers devoting a significant amount of time and resources into a format that doesn’t yet yield enough revenue to cover subsistence costs. It’s hard to think of a medium more in need of support. The foundation simultaneously announced a five year renewal for the program with this year’s grantees, so I see this award as the first — along with that awarded to Anjali Srinivasan and Yuka Otani – of many, bloggers will receive in the future.
