UPDATE:  Given that NADA is a non-profit, Miami specific fair, this post might well be scrapped.  Feel free to disregard the thoughts below.  In fact, I hope you will.

I suppose there are a lot of politics preventing obviously good ideas from actually happening, but I wish NADA and Pulse, the two most reputable emerging art focused fairs in Miami would save everyone a bit of time and merge their efforts.  If they did this perhaps they could eliminate some of the weaker galleries from each fair and put together a single event that doesn’t require such heavy work on the part of the viewer to find the best art.    They could also find a new location, thus solving the issue of being off the beat and path.

UPDATE:  Although I didn’t mention it, the superart fair fantasy would consist of a lot more NADA galleries than Pulse.  Essentially, the percentage of weak galleries at NADA more or less matches the percentage of solid ones at Pulse, so a simple swap would suffice.

I’m sure Pulse would jump at the chance, but I’m not convinced Nada has much to gain from such a deal. They’re pretty well positioned as the second in line as far as I can tell.

Also, NADA is a non-profit fair specific to Miami. Pulse is an art fair brand with locations in 2-3 cities any given year.

Could you research how many galleries have moved up from the each satellite fair to Art Basel? That would be a really interesting count to see.

Over dinner last night, someone proposed the idea of Art Basel Miami Beach doubling the space and absorbing the smaller fairs. There are a lot of valid concerns with that idea, but with the rise of Merchandise Mart, I suppose it is possible.

From what I’ve heard they are getting rid of the containers all together next year. I was interpreting that as a move away from contemporary art, though from what your saying it could just be repositioning for a larger move.
