- ArtInfo reports some are finding it worrisome that three London fairs – Bridge, Pulse and Year ’08 Art Projects – have decided to forgo Frieze week this year given the recent world financial turmoil. Let’s remember however that the fair’s decisions not to do London this year were made well before the stock market crashed and the economy slid into a recession. Even during flush times New York galleries were complaining about how difficult it was to make money in London because shipping costs were so exorbitant. Helen Allen, the director Pulse spoke indirectly about this to ArtInfo citing transportation as a huge cost burden. “In London it’s paramount to have a central location, because transport is so difficult. The tubes are expensive enough, but the taxis are exorbitant.” Replace taxis with art trucking companies and you have an answer that makes a little more sense.
- ArtInfo also has a slide show of picks from the Frieze Fair. There’s a lot of good art there!
- Fixed gear racing bike for Obama? Hell yes! ANIMAL has collaborated with bike builder Marty Walsh, and pattern loving artist Dan Funderburgh to bring you a fixed gear tour de biking force. The bike up for auction on on eBay now and benefits will be put towards Barack Obama’s victory fund.
- Two days ago C-Monster published a letter she wrote to the L.A. Times complaining that their new blog Culture Monster has taken a name so close to her own that there’s likely to be some confusion. She’s worried the L.A. Times will look bad for choosing not to address the matter. The paper took immediate steps to counter this claim by sending the blogger an auto generated mass mail email. It seems like the Art Law Blog might have something useful to say about the legal issues involved in the cribbing of blog names. Any thoughts on this John Silberman Associates/Donn Zaretsky?
