- The New York Times reports Art in America’s editor Elizabeth C. Baker stepped down after 34 years in the position. Marcia E. Vetrocq will take over, while Baker assumes the editor at large position, where she will, among other things oversee their website development. Sadly, their current site is an improvement upon their web presence just two years ago, which consisted only of a link to online print subscription services. I suspect the publication only recently started thinking about the Internet, which is a shame because they would have benefited greatly from owning the url artinamerica.com. Originally via ArtForum.
- In Rhizome news, there’s no way I’m missing this event next Friday: Technology Readings, New York comedians discuss technology saturated culture. The evening will include Chelsea Peretti, Amy Poehler, John Roberts, Joe Mande, Anthony Atamanuik and Laura Krafft, many whom garnered their fame, at least in part, through the Internet. LINK
- In other Rhizome news, the art and technology organization announced this year’s commissions yesterday. In particular I’m looking forward to seeing Brody Condon’s Case, a re-creation of William Gibson’s cyberpunk classic Neuromancer at a red barn theatre in rural Missouri, and Marfa Webring by Jona Bechtolt, Claire Evans, Aaron “Flint” Jamison. My interest in the latter project primarily rests in the hope that a change in Marfa’s google search results will one day actually effect daily life of the town. Good luck with that kids!
- I worry I’m promoting the devil in mentioning this, but perhaps Bank of America card holders will be happy to know they can go to selected museums in the city Saturday and Sunday July 5-6 for free. The list of participating museums is less than impressive. The Bronx Zoo, ICP, The Jewish Museum, The Met (which is already pay what you can) and The New York Hall of Science. The privileges never end…
