"Looks like New York has grown tired of Marcel Dzama"

Finally. (NYC was behind the curve on that one.)

I remember the first time I saw his work at the Montreal Biennial after all the intial hype started up here. I understood the charm they held for collectors but thought it was too bad he wasn't brilliant like Julie Voyce.

I saw the James Kalm video and liked what I saw. Maybe not the dioramas so much. You're right though- weird that the drawings are front and center. Would love to check out the film.

Wow I totally disagree with both reviews. Written by an overly too-cool-for-you hipster with a "that's so 5 minutes ago" attitude.

Seeing Marcel's work from his last exhibition in 2005 to this one there has been huge evolution. I'm really surprised about the criticism as the NY art scene raved for years on his work, but pretty much anything he created pre-2003 just plain sucked both artistically and creatively. Now he is creating unbelievable watercolor pieces that require thought and imagination to interpret the intricacies and situations that are proposed and the bashers come out because they have no imagination due to brainwashing from the hipster-borg.

I say hells yes to Marcel’s newest work. Sorry if you’re too cool to enjoy it.
