I would love to see an art heist of a Richard Serra! Can you imagine the hernias involved?
:)

You forgot to mention the security camera and the prominent signage that points it out. If you can imagine for a moment the massive steel tumbling down upon you and pressing your fragile body into the cold concrete floor you might get a glimpse of the sublime terror I think the piece is meant arouse. The guard is there for your own safety, the camera exculpates the gallery if tragedy strikes. It will provide the evidence the victim was to blame.

Mr. Greene provides a link of an interesting documentary that discusses how these pieces are set up. According to the documentary, they are perfectly safe and stable once in place. If that is case, the guard is a theatre prop. Isn't Minimalism "theatrical" anyway?

Incidently, a very heavy '80's vintage Serra was stolen from a museum. In that case theft is not out of the question and so the guard and camera are necessary.
