Ryan McGinness might be a genius. When you have the Style Court set, the “Stealth Wealth” gang, major museums such a MOMA, AND maybe most importantly, the skateboarder set, clamoring for anything Ryan, well, you have something both relevant and important happening. The fact is that Ryan McGinness is a global cultural star (for good reason) and one who I suspect will have the haters in a frenzy for decades to come!

Yeah, I think that leveling has to do with presenting art as a luxury ticket item the same way that a designer shoe is one. I don't find that so objectionable though. I think the idea that art has to have some higher function limits what it can be.

Great post Paddy! I am still surprised by the way a specific few galleries get to use the Times art section as their own personal advert section. Wonder what that entails? The other annoying thing about the article is the endless drone that keeps leveling art with any other product that's for sale - shoes, televisions, prints etc. I understand the need to make a living, but this incessant professionalization makes my skin crawl. Keep up the good work!
