Spend the Night In SoHo…Seeing Some Art?

Ten People Smiling
A performance by Vlatka Horvat and Tim Etchells
Friday, December 16, 7-8 pm
Artists Space
38 Greene Street, 3rd floor, NYC

In an effort to close down SoHo for good as an art district, “Ten People Smiling”, a performance by Vlatka Horvat and Tim Etchells will be held at Artists Space. Yes, as the title suggests ten people will be smiling…for sixty minutes in a gallery space. I guess the term performance art was redefined as a boring party game when I wasn’t looking. The issue I have with work like this is that it poses as an intellectual investigation of social behaviour, when the methods employed to measure this behaviour most likely start and end with a video camera. Spending Friday night with the DSM IV manual looks to be just about as interesting, and undoubtedly more informative.

IndiWIRE presents: Meet the Film Bloggers
Friday, December 16th, 7:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m
Apple Store
103 Prince Street, NYC

My favorite film blogger, STV of The Reeler, has personally invited AFC and 3000 of his closest friends to have a One-Night Stand with him and six other film bloggers. Assuming the talk opens up to the floor we can all ask The Reeler where he found his magic bag of brilliant post titles, and where we can get one of our own.

Saturday, December 17th,
Williamsburg Gallery Walk
Art Moving, Capla Kesting, Cinders, Gallery Boreas, Hogar Collection, LMAK Projects, McKaig Welles, Outrageous Look, and Sarah Bowen Gallery

This is a highly recommended event on the scale of AFC recommendation. It’s a lot of small galleries presenting good holiday stuff. Or just good stuff since I’m not going to claim that the dark processed sounds of Catera are all about Christmas cheer. Call it laziness, but rather than go through everything that will be happening Saturday at the various galleries, I have simply listed the release.

On the evening of Saturday, December 17, many of our neighborhood’s galleries will be open late with special events.

BOREAS will be presenting a video show by PETER FINNEMORE titled “Project Jedi,” and will be open until 11PM. www.galleryboreas.com

CAPLA KESTING will hold a festive reception from 6-9PM. www.caplakesting.com

CINDERS will host a holiday party, hours 8-11pm.

HOGAR COLLECTION is presenting an evening of Decompositional Duets from composer DAMIAN CATERA, fresh from The PRAGUE BIENNALE. The 8PM performance will be preceded by reception at 7PM, and the evening will run until 10PM. www.hogarcollection.com

LMAKprojects have announced their first annual Holiday Art Editions. The week-end only show includes works by 15 artists, including KEVIN COOLEY, JILL EPSTEIN, JEFF GRANT, and SILVIA RUSSEL, and works will be priced specially for cash-and-carry. 1PM-12AM www.lmakprojects.com

McCAIG-WELLES is hosting a holiday party, and addition to the main show of TRISTAN EATON will be works by several other artists. Hours 7-11PM. www.mccaigwelles.com

OUTRAGEOUS LOOK will be hosting a holiday party in conjunction with the international group show Intermittent Territory for Alienated Figures from 7-10Pm.www.outrageouslook.com

artMovingprojects@ Sarah Bowen Gallery www.artmovingprojects.com

Sarah Bowen Gallery will be hosting a holiday soiree, with food, drink and music, showcasing the ongoing show of KARYN LYONS, titled “i think i love you.” 7PM-12AM with music by DJs “STACHEMASTER” + “PORKCHOP” of the B.L.B.C playing DISCO, ELECTRO, + HOLIDAY JAMS.
